Biotasoil Uses OFP for Sustainable Farming in India
Biotasoil Foundation is an environmental NGO in India committed to ecosystem restoration using nature-based solutions that benefit both human well-being, and biodiversity. The firm uses Miyawaki forestation and silviculture plantation methods to achieve their scalable and eco-friendly objectives. So effective are the methods in the Indian context that the NGO opted to create a model demonstration farm. By using the Miyawaki technique, they achieved 100% sustainability, with trees growing up to 18 feet within six months. More importantly, they were able to adequately address urban waste management problems such as air quality and waste disposal — in the process, Biotasoil replenished the ground table significantly, creating several biodiversity hotspots.
Biotasoil now plans to track their forest growth over time, and access financing from the carbon sequestration of their forests. For this to happen, accurate forest monitoring is vital to track and dually validate relevant growth markers using both on-the-ground and LiDAR measurements, allowing them to build credibility in the carbon credit market. As an OFP project operator, Biotasoil will utilize our advanced Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) resources to monitor the present 0.023 hectares of forest land under Biotasoil. As operations expand and the organization engages more landowners to adopt the Miyawaki farm model, the versatile OFP resources will be able to track the forest growth just as effectively — OFP’s MRV works equally well for projects of all sizes. As a nature-based solution promoting a sustainable farming model, quick, easy, and effective tracking of forest growth using OFP resources will provide operational visibility to the firm and build investor confidence in the carbon credit market. We are so excited to bring Biotasoil onboard to our team of Project Operators. Stay tuned for more!
